 I use to get upset about getting up so much during the night to pee. After reading this I'm glad I do. Between drinking lots of H2O at the gym & during the day & night I just guessed it was JUST the amount of my intake; however, there's a more scientific reason :

Gravity holds water in the lower part of your body when you are upright (legs swell). 
 When you lie down and the lower body (legs and etc) seeks level with the kidneys, it is then that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier.

 IT WOULD MAKE SENSE THAT A MUCH NEEDED REST STOP BE BUILT WHERE THE OLD ONE WAS ON THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY NORTH--BY EXIT 153--IN BLOOMFIELD, NJ.

THERE IS A THRIVING ONE THAT MIRRORS THIS LOCATION ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE GSP. BY EXIT 150.

 A NEW REST AREA WOULD OFFER COMFORT FOR COMMUTERS (esp. those with children) THE LAST REST STOP IS WAY BACK IN UNION. I DON'T EVEN HAVE A CLUE WHERE THE NEXT ONE IS-WTF?

  NOT ONLY DOES A REST STOP PROVIDE THE MUCH NEEDED BATHROOM FACILITIES FOR DRIVERS & THEIR FAMILIES, COFFEE AND A SHUT EYE FOR THOSE DRIVING TO STAY ALERT SHOULD ALSO BE AN INCENTIVE.

 THIS IS ALSO AN OPPORTUNITY TO GAIN REVENUE FOR THE STATE OF NJ OR THE TRANSPORTATION DEPT. RELIEVING POTENTIAL TOLL HIKES (I know I'm an optimist).

I can see both sides:

On one hand, no one owns a gesture or a behavior even if it started in a particular culture (that's what the USA is all about, adopting other cultures' food, dress, dance, behavior, etc.)...

However, I do see the other side that assuming every African American woman should be addressed in a stereotypical, campy way can be perceived as a bit racist. 

We should try to treat people-regardless of gender or race- as individuals not with a blanket assumption.

Not every gay man wants to be addressed as "she"  or "guurl" for instance. 

Even the ubiquitous hello kiss among gay men is frowned upon by other gay men; preferring a firm handshake instead. 

Don't assume.

Mannie goes on to talk about the very true hardships and disparities black Americans face in this country. She’s right, it is very hard to be a person of color in this country, and as a white man — a very gay white man — I have absolutely no true understanding of what that must be like. But what I do have is a very real understanding of generalizations, as all minorities do.

Mannie writes about white males appreciation of Beyoncé (because only black women can like her), or a use of a certain vernacular that apparently belongs exclusively to black women (what about black gay men, can they use it?). She writes that black people don’t have access to everything white people do, and she’s right. That they often must worry about their physical safety, and she’s right. WE MOURN OUR BELOVED JACQUELINE "JACKIE" HAEFLINGER

 






R I P--------It's with a very heavy heart I report the news that our beloved friend & all around wonderful human being, Jacquline "Jackie" Haeflinger, was tragically killed this AM in NYC.

While trying to retrieve her dog, Violet, from underneath a sanitation truck, Jackie suffered her death. We will now pray for her soul. We loved you so much sweetheart & will be dearly missed.

Memorial service for Jackie Tuesday July 8 2014 at. 10:00 a.m at St.Francis Xavier church on 16th Street &  in Manhattan. In lieu of flowers we ask you to donate to the Alzhiemers association in Jackie name.
What a beautiful & heartfelt service; so well deserved for such an amazing woman. The focus wasn't on how she died but how beautifully she lived. How she touched so many lives in so many different circles. There was a unity in love for Jackie from her many colleagues, friends & family. Jackie was present -no doubt. 
I want to personally thank the people at NYU for outdoing themselves.

New York woman, 58, dies in ‘freak accident’ chasing her dog underneath sanitation truck

Chelsea resident Jackie Haeflinger was crushed by the vehicle trying to retrieve her Boston terrier Violet about 10 a.m. Wednesday on 15th St. between Seventh and Eighth Aves. The ‘warm, gracious’ employee at NYU’s events office will be remembered ‘for her hard work and exacting standards,’ the university said.

 The driver — unaware the woman was behind him — slipped the truck into reverse and ran her down, witnesses said. The warning screams of his co-worker apparently went unheard as the engine cranked to life.

 Sanders said the victim was dead before he had a chance to dial 911, and the driver — his head clutched in his hands — was distraught after learning about the tragedy.“It happened so fast,” he said. “It’s a big truck. She tried to grab (the dog), but she unfortunately she slipped.”

 “Her absence will be keenly felt. Her family and loved ones are in our prayers. We all are coming to terms with the sudden news.”

In a strange twist, the six-year-old Boston terrier escaped uninjured from beneath the truck. The oblivious pet stood mingling with stunned witnesses, whimpering a few feet away from his master’s body.

 “She was very friendly, always a smile on her face,” said Jeffrey Purfield, 25. “She cared a lot about her dog. She was very caring ... She was always happy, outgoing.”
