REAL CHILD ABUSE: "SAY YOU'RE A DRUG ADDICT FOR CASH"

Teens claim they were used as fake rehab clients:

---"THE ARRANGEMENT WAS STRANGE. IT WAS ALSO A SCAM"

---"USING TAXPAYERS MONEY TO BALK MEDICAID FOR PERSONAL GAIN"

(CNN) -- "Victoria Byers did not drink alcohol. She did not abuse drugs. But when she was a teenager in foster care, several times a month, she would board a van at her group home and go to rehab.

Byers couldn't figure out why she had to take drug tests and sit in group therapy sessions on addiction at So Cal Health Services, a clinic tucked in an office park in Riverside, California.

"And I told them, you know, 'Why should I be here? I have no drug issue,' " said Byers, now a slow-to-smile 22-year-old.

The director of Byers' group home confirmed Byers was clean but said she sent all six girls under her care to the clinic because she didn't have enough staff to separate those with substance abuse problems.

The arrangement was strange. It was also a scam.

So Cal Health Services was ripping off taxpayers, part of a pattern of fraud by rehabilitation clinics that collect government funding to help the poor and addicted, a yearlong investigation by The Center for Investigative Reporting and CNN has found. The investigation, which included undercover surveillance and stakeouts, uncovered a rehab racket that continues to this day.

Thousands of pages of government records and dozens of interviews with counselors, patients and regulators reveal a widespread scheme to bilk the state's Medicaid system, the nation's largest. Witnesses to the fraud laid out its inner workings in minute detail, some speaking of it publicly for the first time.

In the underbelly of the Drug Medi-Cal program, clinics pad client rolls by diagnosing people like Byers with addictions they don't have. They round up mentally ill residents from board-and-care homes to sit in therapy sessions they can't follow. They lure patients in from the street by handing out cash, cigarettes and snacks. They have patients sign in for days they aren't there.

One Inglewood clinic fabricated notes and billed for "ghost clients" who never came in. They couldn't show up, a counselor discovered: Some were behind bars; one was dead.

Even caught red-handed, operators have polished techniques to ward off official scrutiny and keep the money flowing. One Los Angeles County clinic director lodged a complaint against a government auditor, and another called on a local lawmaker for help. In both cases, it worked..."

CUBAN COMIC DIES "NOW, HE WAS FUNNY!"

GuedesCuban Comedian Alvarez Guedes Dies

Exiled comedian was known for his 'Cubaneo' jokes... (as a youngster I was exposed to this hysterical comic with his saucy humor with both records & books)--always funny, always original, often copied; rumor has it that outside of his legendary persona he was a very humble, educated & kind man. Thanks for the laughs "compadre"--RIP)

MIAMI -
Comedian Guillermo Álvarez Guedes, who was beloved among Cuban exiles in Miami, died in his Kendall home Tuesday.

Family friend Delio Regueral said Guedes had been at Doctor's Hospital in Coral Gables earlier this month after experiencing a stomach ache that was later diagnosed.

"He was a  genius in acting and comedy," Regueral said in Spanish. "Even though he was a comedian, he was a very serious man."

Guedes, also an entrepreneur, co-founded Gema Records in 1975, formerly in Sweetwater. He helped to launch the careers of Rolando Laserie, Celeste Mendoza and other stars.

"He helped a lot of people," Regueral said. "People would come and knock on his door and if he could help, he would."

UNITED NATIONS & EQUALITY FOR LGBTQ

UN Launches Unprecedented Global Campaign for LGBT Equality

 (FINALLY!)

In another sign of changing times, the United Nations today announced an unprecedented global public education campaign designed to raise awareness of homophobic violence and discrimination and promote greater respect for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people everywhere.

Launching the Free & Equal campaign at a press event in Cape Town, with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and South African Constitutional Court Justice Edwin Cameron at her side, the UN's human rights chief Navi Pillay said that there was an urgent need for a concerted public education effort to tackle homophobia at its roots. "We know from experience that eradicating discrimination requires more than just changes in laws and policies. It takes a change in people's hearts and minds as well," she said.

With this campaign, the UN hopes to accelerate a change in attitudes toward LGBT people by provoking -- and helping to inform -- millions of conversations around the world and across the ideological spectrum.

In addition to plain language fact sheets and articles, Free & Equal will generate a stream of creative content, including short videos, graphics and testimony, all designed to dispel common misconceptions and negative stereotypes and encourage people to look at the lives of LGBT people through the eyes of LGBT people themselves, as well as those of their parents, siblings and children.

To kick off this theme of family, the campaign previewed "The Story of a Mother From Brazil," a short film telling the story of Edith Modesto, the mother of a young gay man, who shares her journey toward accepting her son.

The campaign's message is threefold:
  • Human rights really are universal. Everyone, whoever they are and wherever they live, is entitled to the same rights -- and that includes LGBT people. Violence and discrimination against LGBT people, which has been documented in all regions, is unacceptable and illegal under international human rights law.
  • LGBT people are just that: people. The United Nations wants to encourage those who have never thought much about this issue, and who might live in parts of the world where sexuality and gender identity are taboo topics, to learn about the lives of LGBT people, their hopes and their fears, and become better informed about the human rights challenges they face.
  • Things are getting better. For all the bad news and the inevitable setbacks, the long-term trends are positive. Attitudes are shifting in many parts of the world, and many governments are gradually stepping forward and implementing necessary reforms. Changes that would have seemed impossible 10 or 20 years ago are taking root, and as they do, the balance of opinion both within and among countries is steadily tilting in favor of equality for LGBT people.

"THE NANCE" & "THE WAY WAY BACK"

PLAY: 'THE NANCE"

ONE OF THE BEST PLAYS I'VE EVER SEEN.

NATHAN LANE & THE CAST (ALL GREAT BUT ESP LEWIS J. STRADLEN AS THE THEATER OWNER & JONNY ORSINI IN THE BUFF--HOTT!) WILL HAVE YOU PEEING WITH LAUGHTER WHILE TACKLING ISSUES SET IN 1937  (IT'S THE END OF VAUDEVILLE & ESP. THE NANCE CHARACTER IN ANY SHOW IN NYC).

1937 WAS STILL A TIME WHEN ANY SINGLE MAN CONVERSING WITH ANOTHER SPARKED SUSPICION -AND AT TIMES BRUTALITY-FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT MANDATED BY THE POLITICIANS OF THE DAY-SOUND FAMILIAR?
I AM ALWAYS FASCINATED HOW OLD ISSUES STILL RESONATE IN TODAY'S SOCIETY. THEY STILL WANT US TO DISAPPEAR AND DENY OUR RIGHTS, GAY BASHING IS ALIVE & WELL WHILE MANY TIMES LAW ENFORCEMENT LOOK THE OTHER WAY, WHICH HURTS AS MUCH AS A BEATING.

ONE SPOILER ALERT: DID YOU KNOW THE THEN MAYOR WAS BANNING ANYTHING GAY SO "REGULAR" TOURIST WOULDN'T BE SUBJECTED TO "THEM" WHEN VISITING THE 1939 WORLD'S FAIR?
"THE LITTLE FLOWER" ( IN MY OPINION, A THORN ON MY BACKSIDE), MAYOR FIORELLO LA GUARDIA MADE THIS PUBLIC POLICY.
 ASSHOLE!
I DON'T EVEN WANNA FLY OUTTA LAGUADIA ANYMORE. HE DID SOME GREAT THINGS FOR NYC BUT THE FEAR HE INSTILLED & PROMOTED IS UNFORGIVABLE.

ALTHOUGH I MAY BE COMING OFF THIS REVIEW AS TOO DEEP, "THE NANCE" IS A LAUGH A MINUTE.
I'VE SEEN NATHAN LANE A LOT ON STAGE & SCREEN BUT THIS IS BY FAR HIS MOST TAILORED-MADE ROLE YET. I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD, I'M SURE I MISSED A FEW JOKES & INNUENDOS. (BTW, ONE OF MY ORIGINAL JOKES WAS STOLEN--WTF?--AND IT WORKED BEAUTIFULLY!)
SADLY THIS CLOSES AUGUST 11TH--SO RUN!!!!!! REALLY RUN TO SEE IT !!!!
____________________________________________________________________________

MOVIE:  "THE WAY WAY BACK'

ORIGINALLY I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE CUTE & MOST REVIEWS PROMPTED THAT THINKING. I HAD NO IDEA I'D BE LAUGHING FOR 2 HOURS STRAIGHT.

THE CASTING WAS GENIUS. IT'S ONE OF THOSE MOVIES I NEED TO OWN. AS I MENTIONED ABOUT "THE NANCE", I'M SURE I MISSED MANY FUNNY LINES SINCE I COULDN'T STOP LAUGHING. THE MOVIE IS FULL OF HEART & WE WILL ALL IDENTIFY WITH NOT FITTING IN SOMEWHERE (THE WHOLE UNDERDOG SYNDROME).

IT'S ABOUT FINDING A FAMILY WHERE YOU LEAST EXPECT IT. A COMING-OF-AGE FILM BALANCED PERFECTLY WITH A LOT OF HEART & THOUGHT PROVOKING CHOICES AND  SCENARIOS.

NOT SINCE I SAW ROSALIND RUSELL DESCEND THE STAIRS IN "AUNTIE MAME" HAVE A SEEN AN ENTRANCE BY AN ACTRESS AS ALLISON JANNEY SO BRILLIANTLY DOES HERE--YOU CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF HER!

LIAM JAMES IS REMINISCENT OF ROBBY BENSON--ADORABLE & BEAUTIFULLY UNDERPLAYS HIS ROLE. SAM ROCKWELL AS A QUIRKY/FUN FATHER FIGURE STEALS EVERY SCENE. THE MOMENTS--TOO BAD THERE ARE FEW-WITH ONE OF THE WRITERS OF THE FILM, JIM RASH. ARE TOO HYSTERICAL TO TAKE (HE PLAYS THE "I'M LEAVING THE PARK" CHARACTER. HE ALSO WON AN OSCAR FOR CO-WRITING "THE DESCENDANTS" & GOT LAUGHS AT THE OSCARS FOR IMITATING ANGELINA JOLIE'S LEG STANCE)). WHAT A GREAT, FUNNY & TOUCHING SCREENPLAY (SEXY NAT FAXON, ALSO IN THE MOVIE IS THE CO-WRITER).

RUN TO SEE THIS TOO. IT'S A FAMILY MOVIE WITHOUT 3D OR THE BELLS & WHISTLES NOW EXPECTED WHEN SAYING "FAMILY MOVIE".
ONE OF THE FUNNIEST MOVIES EVER!

NEW CARE FOR ELDERLY "DEMENTIA VILLAGE"

'Dementia village' inspires new care (we all gotta start thinking of our parents & what care is best for them outside of the family-now in the NETHERLANDS, other countries are watching this model closely--I like it).

By Ben Tinker, CNN

 Weesp, Netherlands

"Dementia Village' - as it has become known -- is a place where residents can live a seemingly normal life, but in reality are being watched all the time.

Caretakers staff the restaurant, grocery store, hair salon and theater -- although the residents don't always realize they are carers -- and are also watching in the residents' living quarters.

Residents are allowed to roam freely around the courtyard-like grounds with its landscaped trees, fountains and benches -- but they can't leave the premises.
Gupta: Residents say they're happier
Residents shops as caretakers watch
Music is an important therapy

Their two-story dormitory-style homes form a perimeter wall for the village, meaning there is no way a resident can accidentally wander out.
And if they do approach the one exit door, a staffer will politely suggest the door is locked and propose another route.

Placing an aging family member here is far less expensive than round-the-clock, in-home care. It also takes an enormous amount of stress off family members who don't have ample time or proper training to care for their loved ones..."

MY EXPERIENCE AT "THE VIEW"

YESTERDAY WAS A FUN DAY; I WENT TO SEE  'THE VIEW".

SINCE I AM BEYOND PUNCTUAL, I ARRIVED IN LINE AT 7:30 AM. MY LETTER HAD ASKED WE BE THERE BY 9--LOL. I WAS THE 8TH PERSON IN LINE.

AFTER WAITING 15 YRS , I WANTED TO MAKE SURE I HAD GREAT SEATS & I DID : FRONT ROW BY BARABRA WALTER'S CHAIR -4TH CHAIR IN--AWESOME! YOU CAN SEE ME IN YESTERDAY'S SHOW (JULY 9, 2013) IN LONG SHOTS. I'M WEARING A GRAY SUIT & A RED SHIRT.

AS YOU CAN IMAGINE THE WAIT WAS EXTREMELY LONG-REALLY LONG!

I DIDN'T THINK THEY COULD REDEEM THEMSELVES BUT THEY DID. THE ENTIRE CHECK-IN STAFF WAS GREAT--ESP. THE AUDIENCE COORDINATORS.

ONCE INSIDE THE TEMP WAS COLD IN THE STUDIO-PERFECT! IT WAS A HOT DAY OUTSIDE.
THEY GREETED US WITH CRANBERRY DRINKS & SWEET POTATO CHIPS.
THE MOOD WAS JUBILANT --EVERYONE WAS SMILING & EXCITED. THE STUDIO IS MUCH SMALLER THAN IT APPEARS ON TV ( SO WERE THE HOSTS & GUESTS--THIS I KINDA EXPECTED).

THE WARM UP GUY (TOM KELLY) WAS NOT ONLY ADORABLE--TOO BAD HE'S STRAIGHT- AND VERY FUNNY. IMMEDIATELY HE HAD US LAUGHING & DANCING.

THEN WE WENT ON AIR.

IMPRESSIONS OF HOSTS:

CO-HOST-CHIQUI RIVERA-DAUGHTER OF THE LATE & GREAT JENNI RIVERA, SHE'S BEAUTIFUL & ARTICULATE. SHE SPOKE EMOTIONALLY ABOUT HER MOM, THE PLANE CRASH, THEIR RAPES AND UPCOMING BOOK, "UNBREAKABLE"

BARBARA,  AT 83 YRS OLD, LOOKS GREAT FOR HER AGE (THE LAST TIME I MET HER WAS MANY, MANY YEARS AGO AT CARNEGIE HALL WHEN SHE TAP DANCED WITH GLORIA STEINEM-I KNOW, RIGHT?)

JOY LOOKS THE SAME, BUT SINCE I'VE MET HER THROUGHOUT HER CAREER I HAD A CLEARER IDEA OF WHAT SHE LOOKS LIKE IN PERSON.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG LOOKS THINNER & HAD KILLER SHOES, AS USUAL (SHE WAS THE MOST ENGAGING WITH THE AUDIENCE ON BREAKS- SHE DEF. CAME OFF AS THE MOST LIKABLE).

JOY WAS HYSTERICAL--WHEN I WATCHED THE SHOW BACK YOU CAN'T REALLY HEAR HER NON SEQUITURS UNDER HER BREATH--SHE WAS GRACIOUS ENOUGH TO PERSONALLY WAVE HELLO.

BARBARA PERSONALLY THANKED THE AUDIENCE & HOPED THERE WOULD BE TIME FOR QUESTIONS FROM US--THERE WASN'T, UNFORTUNATELY.

(WHILE OTHERS WERE MINDING THE COMIC DURING BREAKS I WAS TRANSFIXED WITH WAS GOING ON ON STAGE & WALTERS WAS THE MOST CONCERNED TECHNICALLY WITH TIME & OTHER DETAILS-JOY LEFT TWICE TO TEXT/PEE/WHO KNOWS?).

I MISSED BIBLE-THUMPING SHERRI-SHE HAD A DAY OFF- BECAUSE SHE IS SO DAMN FUNNY!

ELISABETH HASSELBACK DID NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE AUDIENCE OR TRY TO  ENGAGE AT ALL-SHE CAME OFF AS A SNOB. TODAY I READ SHE IS LEAVING THE SHOW TO JOIN "FOX (FAUX) NEWS"--MAYBE SHE WAS PREOCCUPIED WITH THAT--BUT REALLY, NOT A WAVE? SCREW YOU! SHE WAS DRESSED NICELY & HAS KILLER LEGS BUT IS RAIL THIN--TOO THIN FOR MY TASTE. IRONICALLY, SHE ANNOUNCED LATE YESTERDAY ABOUT HER MOVE TO FOX BUT RUMORS HAVE IT THAT SHE WAS FIRED A FEW MONTHS BACK BY WALTERS--GOOD MOVE BARBARA, THOUGH I DO THINK A CONSERVATIVE POINT OF VIEW IS NEEDED IN THIS FORMAT.

NOW 3 SPOTS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN SEPTEMBER;  THE NAMES BEING THROWN AROUND ARE BROOKE SHIELDS & JENNY MCCARTHY AS REPLACEMENTS.

THE GUESTS:
ANDREA SYRTASH & JEFF WILSER SPOKE ABOUT THEIR DATING BOOK (THE AUDIENCE WENT HOME WITH IT). JEFF DANIELS TALKING ABOUT HIS CAREER (WE GOT SEASON 1 OF "THE NEWSROOM"). THE STUNNING BERNADETTE PETERS WAS THERE TO PROMOTE THIS WEEKEND'S "BROADWAY BARKS" TO ADOPT PETS IN THE THEATER DISTRICT THIS SAT FROM 2:30-6:30 AT SHUBERT ALLEY. SHE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY ADORABLE, ADOPTABLE DOGS--OMG! SHE WAS VERY SWEET TO US AFTER THE SHOW AS WELL. SHE LOOKS AS HOT AS EVER!

I RATE THIS & "ANDERSON" AS THE MOST FUN SHOWS I HAVE EVER BEEN TO, FOLLOWED BY "THE WENDY WILLIAMS SHOW". ELISABETH REMINDS ME OF HOW DISGUSTED I WAS WHEN GERALDO RIVERA HAD HIS SHOW & HOW WOODEN & DISENGAGING HE WAS TO HIS AUDIENCE--THEY ARE OF THE SAME ILK. DON'T THEY KNOW WITHOUT AN AUDIENCE THEY WOULDN'T HAVE A CAREER? IDIOTS!

SOME WAITING IN LINE WERE RUMORING  THAT TYRA BANKS PUTS HER HEAD DOWN ON BREAKS NOT TO LOOK AT THE AUDIENCE--WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?. A REPORTER I KNOW HAD LUNCH WITH HER & SHE TOOK HIM TO ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE RESTAURANTS IN NYC & MADE HIM PAY THE BILL--HE THOUGHT SHE WOULD. AFTER ALL, SHE'S LOADED, HE ISN'T. IT WASN'T EVEN FOR HIM TO GET A STORY.

MOST STAND-BYS GET IN "THE VIEW" NOW (HARDER IN THE FALL)---GET THERE EARLY OR SEND IN FOR TIX. THE WAIT IS ABOUT 2YRS OR LESS.

UPDATE: (JULY 15, 2013):

Done deal: Jenny McCarthy is joining The View.
The comedian-actress will fill one of the open slots on ABC’s popular daytime talk show this fall.
Longtime The View fans already have some sense of what she’s like on the panel. McCarthy, has made 17 previous appearances on the show, including eight as a guest co-host. For months the media has speculated that McCarthy is likely to fill a vacancy on the show.
The View saw the departure of longtime co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck last week to Fox News, while Joy Behar will leave next month. Founding co-host Barbara Walters has announced she will leave the show next summer, but will remain on the show as a producer.

NEW SONG FOR STRAIGHT AND/OR GAY-LOVE

Steve Grand: Shirtless for 'All American Boy' Music Video!

Steve Grand's 'All-American Boy' Becomes A Gay-Themed Country Music Hit On YouTube

(BEAUTIFUL-YOU GOTTA HEAR IT!)

(NICE EYE CANDY TOO--YAY AMERICAN BOYS!)

(I LOVE ALL THE EYES REFERENCES; THE SOUL OF A PERSON, IN MY OPINION)

(GAY OR STRAIGHT,  WE ALL HAVE FALLEN FOR A PERSON WHO WAS KIND WHEN WE WERE VULNERABLE-I KNOW I'VE BEEN THERE OFTEN. THIS SONG REALLY RESONATED WITH ME & IT WILL WITH YOU)

LOS ANGELES (THE HUFFINGTON POST)
 By MICHAEL CIDONI LENNOX

The story was inspired by one of Grand's own.

"I was a 13-year-old boy (at camp)," noted the 23-year-old singer-songwriter, speaking by phone from his hometown Chicago.

"One of my counselors was warm and strong and he took an interest in me — not sexually, but as a friend, and it really moved me.

I remember leaving with a horrible ache in my heart."

He's a musician without a record label, a card holder without any remaining credit. And the gig that supplies what he calls "food money" may now be in jeopardy.

But after events of the last week, Steve Grand said "I would die a happy man today," and not for the reasons he's suddenly getting attention.

Grand's first music video, for his country-tinged rock ballad "All-American Boy," was posted on YouTube last Tuesday.
By last night, it had exploded, attracting more than 400,000 total views — nothing for top-charting videos from big-name recording artists, but an impressive figure for one from a complete unknown whose only promotion has been internet buzz.

The video cost just $7,000, a fraction of the major-names' going rate, but it was a fortune to Grand, who came up with the entire budget himself by maxing out his only plastic to tell the video's story.

COMPUTER "MOUSE" INVENTOR DIES-88

Doug Engelbart Dead: Inventor Of The Computer Mouse Dies At 88

By By MICHAEL LIEDTKE
(HUFFINGTON POST)

"... One of the biggest advances was the mouse, which he developed in the 1960s and patented in 1970. At the time, it was a wooden shell covering two metal wheels: an X-Y position indicator for a display system. (MOUSE)

The notion of operating the inside of a computer with a tool on the outside was way ahead of its time when Engelbart began working on it.

The mouse didn't become commercially available until 1984, with the released of Apple's then-revolutionary Macintosh, a prelude to future breakthroughs such as the iPhone and iPad.

All of those devices were conceived by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who died in October 2011. Although Jobs' contributions to personal technology are far better known, Engelbart left an indelible mark, too..."

( IN 1966 HE CREATED THE "X-Y INDICATOR" OR "MOUSE" BUT MADE VERY LITTLE MONEY ON IT.  WHEN THE MOUSE REALLY TOOK OFF HIS 17 YR OLD PATENT HAD EXPIRED--SAD.
I'M USING ONE NOW & BILLIONS ARE TOO; BTW, HE WASN'T FOND OF APPLYING THE WORD MOUSE TO THIS COMPONENT BUT IT STUCK. HE WAS A VISIONARY WHO SAID WE WERE AT THE BOTTOM OF A TECHNOLOGICAL MOUNTAIN & "LET'S GET ON WITH IT!" HE ROARED)

"Engelbart dazzled the industry at a San Francisco computer conference in 1968.
Working from his house with a homemade modem, he used his lab's elaborate new online system to illustrate his ideas to the audience, while his staff linked in from the lab. It was the first public demonstration of the mouse and video teleconferencing, and it prompted a standing ovation.

In 1997, Engelbart won a most lucrative award for American inventors, the $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize. Three years later, President Bill Clinton bestowed Engelbart with the National Medal of Technology "for creating the foundations of personal computing"

BOB DYLAN ADMITS HE CAN'T SING--DUH!

Bob Dylan Acknowledges 50-Year-Long Hoax: My Lyrics Don’t Make Sense

(NOTHING NEW TO ME--I NEVER GOT HIS SCREECHING-AT TIME I GOTTA ADMIT HE WROTE GOOD LYRICS)

Rock and roll legend, Bob Dylan, acknowledged in a recent interview that he has perpetuated an elaborate hoax on the public for more than fifty years. “I can’t sing, half of the time I don’t even say real words, I just mumble, and my lyrics make no sense.”

Dylan, born Robert Zimmerman, said it began innocently in a concert at the New York Coffee House, “The Bitter End” in 1962. “The audience was so stoned that when I started to play ‘This land is My Land’ for the eighth time, I started to mumble sounds. The audience went crazy. The critics said I was the ‘future of rock and roll’ so who am I to disappoint them? I was just giving the people what they wanted.

”Dylan, often referred to as a “poetic genius”, claims he never knew what people were talking about. How profound is ‘don’t want to be a bum, you better chew gum. The pump don’t work ‘cause the vandals stole the handles’?”

I just made up simple rhymes. Any child could have done what I did.

”The Rolling Stone interview was a promotion for the star’s recent autobiography “Buy This Book and the Charade Will Continue”.

The confession has had no apparent impact on the singer’s popularity, with his new book topping Amazon’s best-seller chart this week.

“Apparently, Lincoln was wrong. You can fool all of the people, all of the time,” Dylan added.

VERBAL GAY BASHING AFTER PRIDE

 070313theseguys.jpg

Video: Two Men Harass Subway Riders After Gay Pride Parade (ON YOUTUBE)

(This kind of trash is  one of the reasons I stopped going to the festivities -I rather celebrate in a more intimate manner--but NO ONE should make us NOT celebrate--total misogynistic, homophobic assholes!)

BTW, wake up NYPD !!!

An ugly homophobic subway altercation on Sunday night was caught on video by a woman who says police did not take her hate crime allegations seriously. The woman who uploaded the video tells us, "I was riding home on the Queens-bound F train following a day of LGBT Pride festivities.

Two men were loudly making homophobic comments, such as 'Today was a scary day for me. There were fags everywhere.' When a group of queer youth got on the train, the men proceeded to harass them, stating that the teens made them want to puke and that they would be killed if they were in Iran."

So you know what you're in for, the video begins just as one of the men screams, "Fuck with this man [referring to himself], and you're gonna get more than fucked in the ass. You're gonna get fucked like you've never been fucked." Okay, then.

The woman who uploaded the video explains:
Seeing that he was being recorded, the first assailant lunged at me, violently grabbing my arms while trying to steal away my phone. One of the youth took the phone from me temporarily to protect it and told the assailant he shouldn't attack a woman. When the assailant threatened to punch me, I took the phone back and ran to the other side of the train to push the emergency button and alert the authorities. At this point the second assailant got up and came towards me, grabbing my body and hands to try and get the phone to destroy the evidence. I yelled and told him I was an attorney. An onlooker then got up and stood between the assailants and myself, and another person left to get the train conductor. A group of people had gathered to stand up to the gay bashers. During this, the second assailant put his hand around the neck of a young queer woman. When the doors opened up at the Roosevelt Ave stop, both assailants fled. I followed them to the station exit while calling 911. One witness had overheard them saying they were on route to Jamaica; they're likely commuters who regularly take this route.
I uploaded the video to YouTube to see if anyone can identify these men. I was left with bruises and scratches from both assailants which I also documented. I witnessed a hate crime.
At this point in time, I'm having trouble getting the police to recognize the incident as something more than just "harassment" -- the video depicts several attacks that happened (twice upon me, and once upon the queer woman). It's really upsetting that the attacks were downplayed to "harassment" in the police report -- I was so specific and detailed about what happened.
We asked the NYPD if they are investigating the incident and if it's been referred to the Department's Hate Crime Task Force. We also asked the woman who took the video to share documentation of her bruises and scratches, and we'll update if we hear back.

DIVORCE GAY STYLE--I KNEW IT

Ruling on Same-Sex Marriage May Help Resolve Status of Divorce

(I'M SURE MANY LAWYERS ARE SHARPENING THEIR PENCILS JUST WAITING FOR THE LGBTQ DIVORCES TO MANIFEST--DO NOT RUSH INTO MARRIAGE JUST BECAUSE WE CAN)

Adam Cardinal’s wedded life began happily in New Hampshire, where same-sex marriages are legal. It went sour three years later in Florida, where they are not.

Elizabeth F. Schwartz of Miami Beach, a lawyer representing a client seeking a same-sex divorce.
Mr. Cardinal, who lives in Fort Lauderdale, separated from his husband several months ago. But the couple cannot get a divorce because, in the eyes of Florida officials, their marriage does not exist.

Returning to New Hampshire to sever the bond is not an option either. Although marrying can be accomplished with a brief visit there, a divorce requires residency in the state for at least a year.

Mr. Cardinal cannot remarry — to do so would make him a bigamist in states like Massachusetts or New York that recognize his previous nuptials. And although he and his husband did not combine their assets, the lack of an official document certifying the end of their marriage carries financial risks.

“I didn’t realize this could potentially be an issue, that we couldn’t divorce when we wanted to,” Mr. Cardinal said. “That was really upsetting.”

The Supreme Court’s ruling last week striking down the federal Defense of Marriage Act has been hailed as a victory for gay couples who wish to marry. But it has also offered new hope to people like Mr. Cardinal who are stuck in a marriage they cannot dissolve.

Said Ms. Schwartz, the lawyer in Miami Beach, “If you’re going to let people into a relationship, you’ve got to let them get out.”
