Jesus Christ & DWTS

DANCING WITH THE STARS - "Episode 1801" - Each couple performed a Cha Cha, Foxtrot or Contemporary routine, vying for America's vote. The two-hour season premiere of "Dancing with the Stars" began MONDAY, MARCH 17 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Adam Taylor) CANDACE CAMERON BURE, MARK BALLAS

I wanna throw up !!!

I just realized that DWTS new "celebrity", Candance Cameron- Bure, is the sister of homophobic actor, Kirk Cameron (yea the guy that also believes the Garden of Eden existed). He has publicly denounced same sex marriage and what he believes "normal" is since he states that he gets all his information-literally- from the Bible.

Last night Candance made a big deal about all aspects of DWTS and her belief in Jesus Christ.

She wants to call the shots on what dance, what to wear & what her partner can wear all in the name of JESUS---give me a freakin' break!!!

I've had enough of their holier than thou Bible thumping !

Why the hell did she agree to participate in DWTS anyway?

I hate to tell her but there are gay people there and the show is known for it's provocative dances, partners and costumes.

WTF ?

It's only week 2 and already she pitted the show against Jesus Christ- REALLY !!!?

GET OUT! Who needs your preachy self?

You will not get one vote outta me...

(update 05-12-2014 brought even more religion to the dance floor--who is voting this no talent person on?--get her out!)

I want the show to carry on & not let religion guide their decisions.

Let's  hope - dare I say pray- they don't...

HOLLYWOOD SONGS

Kinks - Celluloid Heroes - YouTube

www.youtube.com
YouTube

My buddy James just introduced me to a song about Hollywood I never knew about--thx kiddo!

Anyone who knows me knows how obsessed I am with HOLLYWOOD--I know my reincarnation is from someone in the 1930's or 1940's.

It's a matter of fact I want my ashes spread over the HOLLYWOOD sign (still can't decide which letter though--lol)

It's no wonder I gravitate towards all things film & Hollywood pop culture.

My favorite Madonna song--no surprise - is "VOGUE". This song tributes all the major players in Hollywood's golden era.

Along with -----------"VOGUE" ("Rita Hayworth gave good face...")
I also love------------ "JUST GO TO THE MOVIES" (Whenever you are down in the dumps, try putting on Judy's red pumps...."). This is from the musical "A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine"

Of course the old standard "HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD" is what most people know.

Yesterday my friend introduced me to The Kinks, "CELLULOID HEROES"...

Enjoy all of them (I just mentioned 3, there's a longer list) but definitely  listen to "CELLULOID HEREOS"--especially if you like less jazz hands & more rock.

If you hear any other good ones make sure to let me know...

Most of us are just afraid of people--lately, having a conversation seems odd since all our noses are stuck in some electronic device...

SINGER GARRY NOVIKOFF-WOW !!!

Garry Novikoff | A Normal Life

RUN AND HEAR THE MULTI-TALENTED GARRY NOVIKOFF !

If you're not lucky enough to hear him live ( he plays in and around NYC often),
then go on  youtube and enjoy his many videos, they will brighten up your day.
You can also  hear him on cdbaby or spotify.

To get a more comprehensive idea of this artist check out his website:
garrynovikoff.com

BETTER YET, BUY HIS CD, "A NORMAL LIFE"...

TREAT YOURSELF TO HIS ADEPT PLAYING OF VARIOUS MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, CLEVER LYRICS AND  BEAUTIFUL VOICE...
___________________________________________________________________

I was invited to a holiday party in December where the usual food, drink and pleasantries abounded.  I figured I'd put in my usual 2 hours and go home.

Suddenly my time at the party was happily extended as I sat mesmerized by the talents of this award winning singer, GARRY NOVIKOFF; he was a guest and treated us to a variety of songs from his extensive catalogue.
I wasn't alone. He turned an ordinary party into an "event".
We clamoured to buy his CD & now it's one of my new favorites.
Why many of his songs are not merely funny, but thoughtful and clever, is because there's always the element of surprise to them accompanied by catchy music in which you find yourself singing along to pretty quickly ("Dog on the Moon" or "Instant Passion").

The song construction and melodies are layered; to me, this is  the sign of a true artist in the vain of a Cole Porter , Stephen Sondheim or Richard Rodgers.

NOVIKOFF then turns around reaches deep into his soul and tears your heart out with a song like "Lenny". When I watched him perform this on youtube, I wept. He embodies a young James Taylor singing that masterpiece.
Go ahead treat yourself to this performance and tell me I'm wrong...

I had recently seen the amazing Jimmy Webb and I found his opening act was a bit lame. This particular piano player was just that, a great piano player; however, his attempt to work in clever lyrics didn't work-at best they were one dimensional and not particularly creative. I hate to bring his lack of lyrical talent into his otherwise amazing tickling of the ivories but I do this only to say that within a few weeks I saw how it's really done by NOVIKOFF.

The only thing I regret is that I just found out about GARRY NOVIKOFF since after researching him I realize he's won numerous deserving awards and a multitude of great press from respected critics and fans alike.

Let's wrap this up by sayin' GARRY NOVIKOFF is a consummate performer.

Don't wait as long as I did to enjoy his talents.

"DOG DAY AFTERNOON" & 'DALLAS BUYERS CLUB"

"I'll take care of you. I'll make you happy" is what the real life Sonny Wojtowicz is actually known for by those he loved. Sure there are contradictory stories about his actions, state-of-mind and erratic behavior but "I'll take care of you. I'll make you happy" was the one agreed constant.

In both  "DOG DAY AFTERNOON" & "DALLAS BUYERS CLUB" you see both leading men carry this message-at high cost-throughout both films ( Sonny Wojtowicz played by Al Pacino in DDF, in the best acting immersion of his career and Ron Woodroof played almost as brilliantly by

After seeing "DALLAS BUYERS CLUB" last week I couldn't remember a film which had me cheer more loudly for the anti-hero turned hero until tonight when I revisited "DOG DAY AFTERNOON".
They both start out acting on purely selfish reasons but one starts rooting for their intentions early on. More importantly they are both based on real life people and events.

YOU HAVE GOT TO RENT "DOG DAY AFTERNOON" AGAIN !!!

WHEN YOU DO, PLEASE GO ONLINE AND READ THE AMAZING TRIVIA RELATED TO THIS REMARKABLE FILM.
(Not the least as seeing a young Harvey Fierstein, appearing (uncredited) as one of the gay demonstrators).

The reason I have to really tip my rainbow hat to "DOG DAY AFTERNOON" is because the film is from 1975 and is candidly addressing issues of homosexuality (without stereotyping Sonny-who is in a traditional marriage with two kids-extremely masculine and extremely vocal about his feelings for his male lover). The issue of transgenders which is discussed  and celebrated by Sonny and the post Stonewall gays in New York City, but what pulled at my heart strings was a brief but touching moment when a cop tenderly helps Leon-the transgender-with a much needed drink of water. Additionally, it's the first time I remember a film openly discussing same sex marriage. Did I mention this was 1975?

I cannot thank director
He directs fearlessly and armed with brutal reality in every scene. He was also smart for not calling the film "The Boys in the Bank"-which was the magazine article the film was based on; it would have sounded too much, in my opinion, like the campy, gay movie, " The Boys in the Band".

A well deserved Oscar went to writer Frank Pierson; however, Lumet allowed most of the improvisations from ALL the actors, which lends to the natural interactions amongst the characters.

In 2013/2014 we often forget how the mere mention of  words like "I love a man"-from a man- in a film was groundbreaking, Those of us-namely me-who are old enough to remember exalt "DOG DAY AFTERNOON" for it's immeasurable  bravery.

What "DALLAS BUYERS CLUB" does is reflect & remind us even further about stigmas that the LGBTQ community-along with many heterosexuals-suffered through one of the darkest periods in history; therefore, I loudly applaud it as well.

DUCK DYNASTY & Phil Robertson's IGNORANCE...

Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson Makes Controversial Remarks About Sin in America   by Erin Hill

_________________________________

( Anytime someone quotes the fictitious Bible, I often tune it off since I pretty much know the rhetoric; nevertheless, I offer this to those who love "Duck Dynasty" (I'm not one of them). The insensitivity of associating the LGBTQ community with bestiality is a new low.

‘Duck Dynasty’ star Phil Robertson took aim at homosexuality in an interview with GQ. Equating same sex relationships to bestiality, he called homosexuality ‘not logical.’

So much hate in the name of God. Leave MY God outta this buddy, he is a God of LOVE...

________________________________

Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson is under attack for saying in the January issue of GQ  that “homosexual offenders” will not “inherit the Kingdom of God” and stating in graphic terms his preference for heterosexual sex over homosexual sex.

“Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong,” he told GQ. “Sin becomes fine.” He also paraphrased Corinthians: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

“We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell. That’s the Almighty’s job,” Robertson continued. “We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus—whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort ’em out later, you see what I’m saying?”

A&E hasn’t commented on how Robertson’s comments could impact the future of the hit series. However, in 2007, Dog the Bounty Hunter came under fire for using racial slurs, and A&E halted production of his series. And celebrity chef Paula Deen lost the support of several major sponsors after she admitted to using racial slurs earlier this year.

Apple CEO Ti Remarkable Speech on Gay Rights, Racism |

Apple CEO Tim Cook Gives Remarkable Speech on Gay Rights, Racism

Notoriously private executive spoke of personal discrimination

"Tim Cook, Apple’s media-shy chief executive, made a rare public speech at the U.N. this week. Auburn University, Cook’s alma mater, posted his 13-minute talk on Saturday.

Cook made his comments after receiving an achievement award from the university. He talked of personally witnessing a cross burning during his youth, an event that “changed his life forever,” and went on to say, “Since these early days, I have seen and have experienced many types of discrimination and all of them were rooted in the fear of people that were different than the majority.”

Cook, 53, continued by describing the values he says he found in Apple and its founder Steve Jobs when he joined the company in the late 1990s. These include creating products accessible to the disabled and, later, backing national nondiscrimination legislation.

Cook went on to talk of gay rights, saying, “Now is the time to write these basic principles of human dignity into the book of law.” He also backed an immigration overhaul, adding of proposed reforms, “Do not do them because they are economically sound — although they are — do them because they are right and just.”

The statements are remarkable for the notoriously private Cook because they strongly imply personal experience with discrimination. In 2013, Out Magazine named Cook the most powerful LGBT person in the world.

RIP JOAN FONTAINE--BEAUTIFUL LEGEND:

Hollywood stalwart Joan Fontaine, best known for her roles in director Alfred Hitchcock's 1939 Rebecca and her Best Actress Oscar-winning role in his 1940 film Suspicion, died Sunday at her northern California home, according to several reports. She was 96.

Details of her death were not immediately available.

In addition to playing a mousey spouse in both the Hitchcock films, first alongside Laurence Olivier and then to Cary Grant, Fontaine's other well-known movies included 1943's The Constant Nymph, which got her a third Oscar nomination, 1944's Jane Eyre with Orson Welles, 1952's Ivanhoe with Robert Taylor, and 1957's controversial Island in the Sun with Harry Belafonte.

I  also remember her as the meek socialite in "THE WOMEN".

Her final role was in a 1994 TV movie.
