THANKS MOSTLY TO THE DEMOCRATS, STUDENT RATE LOANS WILL REMAIN LOW (ALL THOSE OPPOSED WERE REPUBLICANS-NO SURPRISE)
" The House of Representatives on
Friday passed a transportation bill that included an extension of the
low interest rate on government-subsidized student loans, just days
before the rate would have doubled.
The bill, which includes more
than $100 billion in funding for highway projects over two years,
extends the current 3.4 percent student loan rate for one more year at a
cost of an estimated $6 billion.
The measure passed 373 to 52. All of the members who opposed it were Republicans.."
I'm sure those against this common sense decision never struggled to get one of the rights ALL Americans should receive --a higher education. Look at the world advancing technologically & educationally.
WHY?
Some of our citizens cannot even afford a community college while trying to put food on the table.
On a personal level, my working class parents made education their priority for my sisters and me. Yet I saw many stressed out, depressed, discouraged and out & out crying young students when they realized school was a luxury they couldn't afford.
IT BROKE MY HEART!!!
Smart people who would put back into the community were coldly turned away.
NO CASH NO EDUCATION-PERIOD!

EDUCATION NEEDS TO BE FREE PEOPLE- OR AT LEAST ON A WORK STUDY ARRANGEMENT. NO ONE SHOULD BE TURNED AWAY WHO WANTS A COLLEGE DEGREE!

Those lucky enough to qualify for student loans took whatever high percentage offered just to become "something" of themselves and live that long ago "American dream" (now a blurred dream at best).
You may not agree on all of OBAMA'S issues (even I, who thinks the guy is one of our best presidents we've ever had to date, knew the struggles of getting a higher education. He recently revvealed that it was only 7 years ago that he & the first lady finally paid off their own loans. He is fighting for the lower & middle class. This week's decision is on his insistence to keep the rates low.
