SAVE YOUR LIFE BY DIALING 112 !!!

EVERYBODY SHOULD READ THIS!!!!!!!!!
REPOST...IT CAN SAVE A LIFE OR TWO!!!

WARNING: Some knew about the red light on cars, but not Dialing 112.

An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's parents have always told her to never pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc.

Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called, 112 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was and there weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way.

Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.
I never knew about the 112 Cell Phone feature. I tried it on my AT&T phone & it said, "Dialing Emergency Number."
Especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going on to a safe place.

*Speaking to a service representative at Bell Mobility confirmed that 112 was a direct link to State trooper info. So, now it's your turn to let your friends know about "Dialing, 112"

You may want to send this to every Man, Woman & Youngster you know; it may well save a life.

This applies to ALL 50 states
PLEASE PASS ALONG TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY, IT CAN SAVE A LIFE....

F I T PRESENTS: "QUEER FASHION" (SEPT 13TH)

The Must-See Exhibit: Queer Fashion at FIT

 (OPENS SEPTEMBER 13TH--FREE)

(Fashion Institute of Technology)

  • Seventh Avenue at 27 Street
  • New York City 10001-5992
  • 212-217-7999

F I T HAS AMAZING FREE EXHIBITS ALL YEAR LONG--DON'T JUST WALK BY--FEED THE MIND, STOP IN!

By Max Berlinger

'From the Closet to the Catwalk' explores fashion through a queer lens

Above: Clockwise from top left: Gay Pride “Kings and Queens 3,” 1989; Gianni Versace, leather evening dress, Autumn/Winter 1992 (worn by Naomi Campbell); Jean Paul Gaultier, orange shirred velvet dress, 1984; model Jenny Shimizu, Helmut Red campaign

This fall, Valerie Steele, director of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and her co-curator, Fred Dennis, set out to expose the vital, if sometimes unsung, contributions the queer community has made to the fashion industry. “What people will find is that there is a multitude of gay aesthetics,” says Steele of their exhibit A Queer History of Fashion: From the Closet to the Catwalk, which includes everything from Versace’s leather bondage dresses (a nod to backroom debauchery), Gaultier’s conical bras and skirts for men (a camp take on sexual politics), Saint Laurent’s tuxedos for women (which helped put androgyny on the map), and an 18th-century dandy’s suit worthy of Oscar Wilde.

The show’s timely coda features a selection of same-sex wedding ensembles. Ultimately, Steele and Dennis see it as a more accurate portrayal of fashion’s past, which has too often been scrubbed clean of any sexuality. “By deliberately acknowledging what gay people have done for fashion,” Steele says, “we’re shedding a whole new light on the subject.” Opens September 13.

LINDA RONSTADT WONT SING-PARKINSON'S DISEASE

Linda Ronstadt Discloses Her Battle With Parkinson’s Disease

(ONE OF THE SADDEST NEWS I'VE HEARD THIS YEAR)

Her classic/standards albums with Nelson Riddle remain as some of my favorites. She's from a bygone era where you really HAD to sing, not let a computer do it for you.

WE WISH HER WELL...

Posted on 08/23/2013 by of "AARP"

"Legendary singer Linda Ronstadt, 67, told AARP today that she “can’t sing a note” because she suffers from Parkinson’s disease.

Diagnosed eight months ago, Ronstadt began to show symptoms as long as eight years ago. But she ascribed her inability to sing to a tick bite (“my health has never recovered since then”), and believed the shaking in her hands resulted from shoulder surgery.

In a wide-ranging interview with AARP’s music writer Alanna Nash to be published on aarp.org next week, Ronstadt revealed how she discovered that “there was something wrong” with her voice.

“I couldn’t sing,” she told Nash, “and I couldn’t figure out why. I knew it was mechanical. I knew it had to do with the muscles, but I thought it might have also had something to do with the tick disease that I had. And it didn’t occur to me to go to a neurologist. I think I’ve had it for seven or eight years already, because of the symptoms that I’ve had. Then I had a shoulder operation, so I thought that’s why my hands were trembling.

“Parkinson’s is very hard to diagnose, so when I finally went to a neurologist and he said, ‘Oh, you have Parkinson’s disease,’ I was completely shocked. I wouldn’t have suspected that in a million, billion years.

“No one can sing with Parkinson’s disease,” Ronstadt said. “No matter how hard you try.”
Ronstadt walks with the aid of poles when on uneven ground, and uses a wheelchair when she travels.

Although Ronstadt’s new memoir, Simple Dreams, will appear on September 17, it does not discuss her diagnosis, or the loss of her voice.

Ronstadt, who dated high profile men such as California Gov. Jerry Brown and George Lucas, helped shape the folk-rock music scene of the late 1960s and early 1970s. She started as lead singer of the Stone Poneys, then went on to achieve fame as a solo performer. She has earned 11 Grammy Awards, two Academy of Country Music awards, and an Emmy..."

BAM and New York City Opera present

Anna Nicole
Composed by Mark-Anthony Turnage
Libretto by Richard Thomas
Directed by Richard Jones
Conducted by Steven Sloane

Anna Nicole was commissioned by the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London and premiered there in February 2011

“…an engrossing, outrageous, entertaining and, ultimately, deeply moving new opera.”
—The New York Times

In a brilliant marriage of lowbrow bawdiness and highbrow operatic craft, British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage and librettist Richard Thomas (Jerry Springer: The Opera) immortalize the tumultuous life of Anna Nicole Smith—stripper, playmate, and formidable tabloid queen.

Looking to each paparazzi-plagued chapter of the star’s story—the bombshell centerfold, the devastated mother, the unlikely wife of an 89-year-old billionaire—Anna Nicole captures a woman caught between greed and exploitation. Turnage’s vibrant, eclectic score (performed by the New York City Opera orchestra and chorus) and Thomas’ razor-sharp libretto drive this operatic portrait, at once comic and tragic, of modern celebrity and one woman’s warped pursuit of the American dream.

CHRISTIE SUPPORTS LGBT--FINALLY!

NJ Gov. Christie signs ban on controversial gay conversion therapy...

(I HOPE HE'S NOT JUST PANDERING FOR HIS POTENTIAL PRESIDENTIAL RUN IN 2016)

HE CLEARLY SPOKE OF THE DANGER OF CONVERSION THERAPY (suicide, etc...)

(let's face it, even the biggest conversion group, the EXODUS CHURCH, has finally admitted "it doesn't work"--DUH!)

Christie's action is seen as a victory for gay rights groups...

Christie has said that he believes that sexual preference is a trait people are born with and that, although his Catholic faith calls homosexuality a sin, he does not...

When he vetoed the same-sex marriage law last year, he said the state should hold a referendum on the issue instead. In June, he criticized the Supreme Court's decision striking down a ban on federal rights for same-sex married couples. At the same time, the governor said he is "adamant'' that same-sex couples deserve equal legal protection and vows to abide by a same-sex marriage law if the voters approve it. He also appointed the first openly gay judge to the state's Supreme

Supporters of same-sex marriage say they have greater hope New Jersey will soon allow it after Republican Gov. Chris Christie signed legislation Monday banning the controversial practice of "conversion" therapy for gay youth.

New Jersey is only the second state in the nation, after California, to forbid licensed therapists from using therapy to try to change the sexual orientation of minors. But the state is the only one in the Northeast not to allow gay couples to marry: Christie vetoed same-sex marriage legislation last year.

Christie said that while he is concerned about "government limiting parental choice on the care and treatment of their own children,'' he sided with expert opinion from the American Psychological Association that so-called conversion therapy can lead to depression, suicidal thoughts and substance abuse in teenagers.

The conversion therapy law "sets a national precedent on not allowing this abuse to go forward,'' said Troy Stevenson, executive director of Garden State Equality, which supported the ban.

ANDY COHEN SAYS SHOVE IT RUSSIA!

Andy Cohen Drops Out of Hosting Miss Universe — Because of Russia

( GOOD FOR YOU ANDY & NOBODY WATCH IF THEY INSIST ON HAVING IT THERE-FUCKERS!)

8.15.2013

By Neal Broverman

The Bravo host and executive will not host this year's Miss Universe event, which takes place in Russia.
Andy Cohen, the host of Bravo's Watch What Happens Live, has dropped out of co-hosting the Miss Universe pageant in Moscow, saying he doesn't feel safe traveling to Russia as a gay man.

Reacting to the nation's recent antigay "propaganda" bill, Cohen told E! News, "Their discriminatory policies make it unsafe for the gays who live there and gays coming to work or visit... The law is that anyone under suspicion of homosexuality can be arrested. [I don't] feel right as a gay man stepping foot into Russia."

The Miss Universe pageant is scheduled for November 9 in Moscow. There is already a Change.org petition urging a change of venue, with over 25,000 supporters. Donald Trump, the owner of the Miss Universe pageant, has not commented on the petition.

POVERTY FOR JUSTIN GUARINI?

Justin Guarini Discusses Post-’Idol’ Struggles in Shocking Open Letter

_____________________________________

( I had the pleasure of meeting him in person years ago at a fireman's charity event in L.I. with many of the top figure skaters & Steve Buscemi)

Guarini was the nicest guy! -so were Nancy Kerrigan & Johnny Weir...On the other hand, Buscemi was the unfriendliest celebrity I have ever met, next to the aloof, Kevin Bacon & the phony, Sharon Stone.

I feel bad for this guy. Somehow I never "got" him when he was on "Idol" but I always thought his popularity would be sustainable-sad...

_____________________________________

"Eleven years ago, memorably curly-topped contestant Justin Guarini made it to the finale of the inaugural season "American Idol." Though he placed second, his future still seemed bright; at the time, it wasn't hard to imagine that he'd go on to have as successful a career as his worthy opponent (and From Justin to Kelly co-star), winner Kelly Clarkson. But that was not the case. His self-titled solo album for RCA Records was a flop, selling only roughly 150,000 copies; he was subsequently dropped from the label. From Justin to Kelly was a box-office bomb. Justin went on to eke out a modest career for himself in theater and TV hosting, but he fell on hard times, revealed in a surprisingly candid new blog post on his website, titled "Early Morning Madness."

The post, which was published Wednesday, detailed a brutal downward slide since his "Idol" days — including confessions that he skips meals to make sure his wife and children have enough to eat, that he envies those who "know where your next meal is coming from," and that he lives in fear of a breakdown.

Sounds grim. However, in an odd twist, Justin abruptly took down his site Thursday and snapped via Twitter that his post was misunderstood. Saying that the media "completely missed the point of my letter," he added, "News isn't news anymore, and I'm nowhere near poverty #twistedmytruth."Um, okay. We'd say admitting that one can't afford to feed the family is about as close to poverty as anyone could get...but, this is Justin's truth, apparently. His open letter is still a must-read for any current or future "Idol" contestant who naively believes that competing on a TV talent show will lead to guaranteed fame and fortune.

Justin today"There was a time when I would have had a car service drive me from my home to work. Now I drive myself to the station and take the train. There was a time when I wouldn't have been concerned about the amazing expense of eating at place like Green Symphony. Now, I budget," Justin writes. "I have spent days skipping meals in order to make sure I have enough. To make sure my children, and my wife have enough. There was a time when I couldn't walk the street w/o being stopped a hundred times for a photo or a press of flesh. Now one in a thousand might stop me, or notice. For the rest I might (might) trigger some dim memory, stuffed at the back of long unfired synaptic pathways overgrown with the clutter of social media..." (more on YAHOO.COM )

RUSSIAN LGBTQ WELCOMED IN CANADA

Canada to favour refugee claims by gay Russians

The Globe and Mail

"Canada’s refugee board is likely to look favourably on claims of persecution by gay asylum-seekers from Russia, the Immigration Minister says.
Chris Alexander said Monday in Surrey, B.C.,
that Russia has taken the wrong path in restricting the fundamental rights of its gay community, and that any refugee claims “related to this particular issue will of course be looked at very seriously by our very generous system.

Russia has passed a new law banning gay “propaganda” – a catch-all that prohibits gay pride events and providing information to minors on “non-traditional” relationships, and exposes those who express pro-gay views to prosecution. Foreigners can be hit with fines of about $3,000, and 15 days in a Russian jail.

Lawyer Rob Hughes, who is representing two gay Russian men claiming refugee status in Canada, says he expects more Russians to make claims based on sexual orientation.
“It’s quite encouraging … It is very positive news,” he added about Mr. Alexander’s statement. “People are not feeling safe there.”

Mr. Hughes, who focuses on sexual orientation and gender-based claims, says his two clients told him numerous people in Russia have expressed interest about seeking asylum in Canada.

“On the other hand, because of the cost and visa requirements to get here, I don’t think it will be floodgates,” he said..."

(NOW I LOVE CANADA EVEN MORE!)

FASTEST TRAVEL YET? "TUBE TRAVELING", THE FUTURE?

LA to New York in 45 minutes: Colorado company has developed a concept for high-speed tube travel.

Rumor: High-speed tube travel concept in the works: (SIGN ME UP!!!)

TRUE: Prototypes for tube travel are complete; company searching for a test site
Imagine traveling from New York to Los Angeles in less time than it takes to get through those annoying airport security lines.

Well, a company called ET3 out of Longmont, Colo., has developed a concept for the Evacuated Tube Transport, an airless, frictionless tube that can propel vehicles up to 4,000 miles per hour, effectively moving you from Los Angeles to New York in 45 minutes, all for the low, low cost of $100.

MSN News spoke with Daryl Oster, CEO of et3.com Inc., about his concept for future travel, a vision that is farther along than you might think. While this latest concept of high-speed travel sounds like something straight out of a science fiction movie, Oster said prototypes and mock-ups have already been built and the company hopes to perform a three-mile test run by the end of the year.
"We're ready for full-scale implementation," Oster said.

GINGER PARADE? I'M MOVING TO SCOTLAND!

Participants in the Ginger Pride Parade 2013 (© Scott Campbell/Getty Images)

First Ginger Pride March blazes trail on streets of Edinburgh:

Countless gasps and shrieks were no doubt suppressed in Edinburgh Saturday when scores of redheads met during the Fringe Festival for a Ginger Pride Walk. The event was organized by fiery-haired Canadian comedian Shawn Hitchins, and featured smiling pale folks parading through the streets holding signs that read "It gets redder" and "Ginger and Proud." "Even although it isn't a real word, gingerism exists and bullying exists and you can’t deny that kids are being subjected to taunts or being bullied in schools just for having red hair," Hitchins said. His Scotland vacation must have been a breath of fresh air; Scotland is lousy with gingers, home to a fifth of the world's redheads.

(BULLIED? WTF??THEY ROCK!!!)

NYPD agrees to stop bullying redheads on the force

4/22/2013
It ain't easy being a redhead. But if you've got fiery locks and have endured years of high school bullying, then bag yourself a job in the NYPD, because hair-related harassment won't be tolerated there anymore. According to sources, NYPD officers have just been told that making fun of those with red hair is a form of discrimination, because redheads are often of Irish or Scottish descent. Justine Lisser of the EEOC in Washington, D.C., explains, "It's an innocuous-seeming criteria, but if it has a 'disparate impact' on a certain racial group, red hair could be considered the basis of discrimination." The force clarified its stance after a number of officers allegedly complained about hair harassment

Dixie Evans, 'Marilyn Monroe of Burlesque,' dies at 86

(IRONICALLY TODAY IS THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE REAL MARILYN MONROE'S DEATH IN 1962)

Mere days before a week of burlesque shows dedicated in her honor, Dixie Evans, the "Marilyn Monroe of Burlesque," has died. She was 86.
The former Helendale resident, who died on Saturday, had been recuperating in a Las Vegas assisted-living facility after she suffered a stroke earlier this year.
Dustin Wax, executive director of the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas, said Evans was "profoundly important to the burlesque world, and we are deeply saddened by Dixie's death. The entire community (of burlesque) is hurting today."
The recent revival in burlesque often has been attributed to Evans.
The "beloved Godmother of the new burlesque movement" according to dixieevansweek.com was planning a week of celebrations honoring her contributions to the art and raising funds to aid in her recovery from a stroke in January.
Evans was born in Long Beach and rose to fame in burlesque with her parody and tribute performances to Marilyn Monroe. Baseball great Joe DiMaggio, who was once married to Monroe, is said to have attended Evans' performances.
