Italian artist, Maurizio Cattelan
You may remember Cattelan's amazing exhibit at the Guggenheim Museum in NYC where all his previous art was hung from the ceiling?
Last night he launched what was "the" party to be at-and at all places the gay, leather bar
"The Eagle", in NYC.
"The Eagle", in NYC.
There was dancing, food, open bar ( not a great idea for some nightlife novices--lol), but the Thursday night regulars were shocked then engrossed in something The Eagle rarely sees--Women!
The night had its share of the glitterati , artists (both known & upcoming), hipsters, leather daddies, models, wannabes, drag queens, etc- a proverbial mix of characters. It was all sponsored by the magazine-rumor has it that it costs $100 per person & all 3 floors were filled to the gritty rim. Catellan is not known for subtlety-why start now? Toilet & toilet paper welcomed the guests at the front door & the theme continued throughout the night. Gift bags were also given.
Fittingly, the magazine is called "TOILETPAPER MAGAZINE"
It's the most recent collaboration between Italians (both based in Milan
and NY) artist Maurizio Cattelan and photographer Pierpaolo Ferrari
has resulted in a self-proclaimed 'new generation' magazine by the name
of 'toilet paper'. the magazine's sophomore release was in January and is
comprised entirely of photographs that combine high commercial production
value with challengingly ambiguous narratives and a troubling imagination.
in an interview with vogue Italy, Ferrari described the project as a 'mental outburst'
of shared ideas between the two collaborators' passion / obsession. the result is a
fascinating collection of visual tableaux, though not for the squeamish. .
