"Emma Whitehead is a 7-year-old cancer patient. After two years of battling with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, she was selected to participate in an experimental trial that uses a disabled version of HIV to “cure” cancer.

This remarkable new treatment used a manipulated version of the HIV virus to modify the girl’s white blood cells to attach her cancer. The breakthrough procedure could potentially replace bone marrow transplants in leukemia treatment, and and is administered with a single injection. From what I understand the girl is still highly prone to infection & her immune system is fragile therefore she has to continually be on medication. However, after 8 months, she is in complete remission from the leukemia. WOW!!!
She is strong and for the parents this was a last ditch effort--she was going to die.

Could this be the piece of the puzzle missing as to why the HIV virus occurred at all?
